Methamphetamine charges for man found on side of road

A man was arrested in Illinois on March 14, 2018, and is now facing multiple drug charges in Pike County. The 43-year-old man was found parked along the shoulder of Illinois Route 96, just above Route 106. When a deputy sheriff from the county patrolled the area as part of normal rounds at around 5:00 p.m., he found the man seemingly unconscious and slumped over the driver's seat of his truck.

Upon checking his identification, the man was found to be from Odessa, Texas, and had an outstanding warrant from Brown County, on which he was arrested. Following the arrest, police searched the vehicle, where they found a rifle and methamphetamine as well as a number of items frequently used to manufacture methamphetamine, classified as drug paraphernalia.

After being taken to the Pike County Jail, the man is charged with a number of drug offenses as well as other charges related to driving and traffic offenses. He is facing drug charges for unlawful possession of methamphetamine manufacturing materials and precursors, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. He is also charged with driving with a revoked license, operating a motor vehicle without insurance or a valid registration and illegally tinted windows.

People who are accused of drug crimes in Illinois could face aggressive prosecution and severe penalties. While the penalties for drug charges depend on the type and quantity of drugs involved, any kind of drug offenses carry the potential of jail or prison time, costly fines or a felony criminal record. People who are immigrants may also face the risk of deportation. A criminal defense attorney may be able to provide a strong defense and challenge police evidence in court.
