An alleged drunk driving incident on March 10 in Joliet has left one woman seriously injured and one man behind bars. According to reports, the accident reportedly happened at approximately 10 p.m. at the intersection of Caton Farm Road and Essington Road. A bystander who photographed the wrecked vehicles told sources that the man’s blue Ford F-250 pickup truck apparently crashed into the woman’s white four-door car after running a red light on Essington Road.
The 48-year-old man, who was not injured in the incident, has prior drunk driving convictions. Both convictions are reportedly out of neighboring DuPage County. As of March 14, the man remained incarcerated at Will County jail on new charges. Bail was set at $750,000.
The detained man is now facing four felony charges of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol. These charges include two counts of causing serious bodily harm to the other motorist and two counts of third-offense DUI. At the time of the incident, the man’s blood-alcohol concentration was at least twice the state’s legal limit, according to the criminal complaint.
Motorists in the Chicagoland area who find themselves facing felony drunk driving charges may want to discuss their unique circumstances with a criminal defense attorney. A practiced lawyer with trial experience could challenge the prosecution’s evidence. Dependent upon the case facts, legal counsel could potentially identify violations of police protocols, which could ultimately lead to a dismissal. The attorney could also negotiate lesser charges or penalties if it appears to be in the client’s best interests.
