Police charge both drivers with DUI following crash

Drunk driving charges have been filed against both of the drivers involved in a motor vehicle accident that took place on the evening of March 25 in Knox County. Blood samples collected at a Peoria hospital are said to have revealed that the 50-year-old man who police say may have caused the accident by running a red light had a blood alcohol level of .346 percent at the time of the crash. He has been charged with two counts of felony DUI and faces up to 12 years in prison if convicted. A sample taken from the other driver, a 27-year-old Knoxville man, allegedly indicated a blood alcohol level of .156 percent. The legal driving limit in Illinois is .08 percent.

Methamphetamine charges for man found on side of road

A man was arrested in Illinois on March 14, 2018, and is now facing multiple drug charges in Pike County. The 43-year-old man was found parked along the shoulder of Illinois Route 96, just above Route 106. When a deputy sheriff from the county patrolled the area as part of normal rounds at around 5:00 p.m., he found the man seemingly unconscious and slumped over the driver's seat of his truck.

Driver charged with felony DUI following crash in Illinois

An alleged drunk driving incident on March 10 in Joliet has left one woman seriously injured and one man behind bars. According to reports, the accident reportedly happened at approximately 10 p.m. at the intersection of Caton Farm Road and Essington Road. A bystander who photographed the wrecked vehicles told sources that the man's blue Ford F-250 pickup truck apparently crashed into the woman's white four-door car after running a red light on Essington Road.

Impaired drivers targeted by saturation patrols

Illinois motorists driving on the South Side of Chicago might notice a higher than usual police presence. On March 3, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., police are planning to crack down on drinking and driving with a targeted effort. The Chicago Police Department has announced its DUI Saturation Patrol will spend most of its Saturday night in the 6th District, which includes Gresham.

Drunk driving in Naperville had been on a steady decline, but the trend suddenly reversed at the end of 2017. In December, Naperville police filed twice as many DUI charges as they had the previous December, and January 2018 also beat the previous January. A 27-year-old man was arrested by police in on Feb. 25 accused of dealing cocaine in Lee County. The charges come as the man already faces felony charges related to cocaine in Whiteside County. The man was targeted for arrest by the Blackhawk Area Task Force of the illinoiss State Police, which is charged with addressing drug offenses.
