Man charged after police find 14 pounds of marijuana

illinoiss authorities reportedly recovered about 14 pounds of marijuana in Arlington Heights while they were executing a search warrant on Jan. 16. Ultimately, authorities seized 6,318.6 grams, which has an estimated street value of more than $125,000. A 32-year-old man who lived at the home was taken into custody as a result.

During the execution of the search warrant, authorities found a wrapped brick of marijuana that weighed 5,856.5 grams in a bedroom. About 450 grams of marijuana prepackaged into units was found in another area of the home near a coffee table. Another 8 grams was found in the man's waistband.

The accused man was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. His bond was set at $115,000 on Jan. 18. If he is convicted on this felony drug charge, he could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison due to the fact that he had a previous drug possession conviction in Michigan in 2008. When he was taken into custody, the man was also on bond for reckless driving charges and leaving the scene of an accident.

When a person is facing felony drug charges in illinoiss, the potential consequences can be extremely severe. If the offender has prior drug convictions, he or she could face years if not decades in prison. On top of that, the person will have a criminal record that could prevent him or her from seeking gainful employment or loans. A criminal law attorney may investigate the charges against the accused offender and challenge the legality of the search that originally lead to the discovery of the alleged drugs.
