Singer Michael Ray facing charges

Country music fans in illinoiss might be interested in learning that up-and-coming star Michael Ray has been charged with driving under the influence. The incident happened in Florida on Dec. 20.

According to law enforcement officers who responded, Ray was waiting in a line at a McDonald's restaurant during the early morning hours when he collided with the vehicle in front of him in the line. Ray told the police that his foot had slid off of his brake pedal, causing his car to lurch forward and strike the other vehicle.

The police officers reported that Ray had bloodshot eyes and spoke with slurred speech. He was asked to take some field sobriety tests, which the officers state he failed. The police officers reported that they found a bottle that contained a liquid brown substance. Ray allegedly told them that the liquid was "weed oil". He was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence and drug charges. There is no information about whether or not he was under the influence of alcohol. Ray's bond was set at $6,000.

Drugged and drunk driving are treated harshly within the criminal justice system. People who are convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be incarcerated, be ordered to pay heavy fines, lose their driving privileges and face other penalties. Criminal defense lawyers who are experienced with defending against allegations of drunk or drugged driving might be able to assist their clients in securing favorable plea offers. In some cases, they might challenge the admissibility of the evidence if the police officers conducted the stops and investigations improperly. The lawyers may advocate for their clients up through trial if it is necessary.
