Cocaine and MDMA seized from campus apartment

On Oct. 1, two illinoiss residents were taken into custody after a large amount of cocaine and MDMA was seized from an apartment during the execution of a search warrant. The apartment was located near the Fourth Street and John Street intersection in Champaign.

Police with the University of illinoiss stated that during the execution of the search warrant, more than 400 grams of cocaine were seized. This was one of the largest cocaine busts the University Police had ever been involved with. Authorities also seized approximately 35 doses of MDMA, an amount of marijuana that was not disclosed, packaging materials and cash. Authorities said the estimated street value of the seized drugs was estimated to be about $20,000.

The 21-year-old owner of the apartment was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. He had reportedly withdrawn from the university during the beginning of the fall semester. The other individual who was detained reportedly arrived while the apartment was being raided. When his vehicle was searched, authorities found more than $9,500 in cash in the center console. He was charged with conspiring to commit drug crimes.

In the state of illinoiss, drug charges are taken seriously and have severe consequences for those who are convicted. Depending on whether or not the accused have previous drug convictions and a variety of factors in the present case, they could face jail time, fines, probation and the requirement complete a drug education program or a rehabilitation program. A criminal law attorney may challenge the charges if the accused person's property was illegally searched or the authorities violated the person's rights.
