On July 25, it was reported that four Illinois residents were taken into custody during an investigation into drug activity and stolen vehicles. All four individuals were facing charges for possession of methamphetamine manufacturing materials while one person was facing additional charges for a stolen Harley motorcycle.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and several other law enforcement agencies receives a search warrant for the home of one of the suspects, which was located in the 800 block of Douglas County Road just southeast of Tuscola. During the search, the authorities said that they recovered a stolen vehicle and drug-related evidence. The recovered vehicles included a pickup truck that had been stolen several days earlier. The drug-related evidence that was recovered included items commonly used in the methamphetamine manufacturing process and packaging products.

The four individuals were identified as a 53-year-old man, a 28-year-old man, a 42-year-old woman and a 31-year-old woman. All four were reportedly being held in Douglas County Jail.

Those facing drug charges in Illinois could be sentenced to severe penalties if they are convicted. Depending on the actual charges, a person could be sentenced to jail or prison, drug education, probation and be required to pay thousands in fines and court costs. Some individuals could even be facing deportation. However, a criminal law attorney may aggressively defend a person against the charges. There are different defense strategies that an attorney may utilize depending on the case circumstances. For example, the attorney could argue that the accused person was not involved in making or selling the drugs that were found. In other cases, the attorney may work to get the charges dropped if authorities did not follow proper procedures.
