2 charges following home drug raid

illinoiss officers reported on April 2 that about five pounds of marijuana, crack cocaine and thousands of dollars in cash were recovered from an Evanston home. The Evanston Police Department reportedly carried out the drug raid on March 1 after obtaining a search warrant.

The apartment were the drug raid took place was located on the 2600 block of Central Street. Three individuals, one woman and two men, were found in the apartment. A 21-year-old woman was initially detained by the authorities but she was later released. One of the men was identified as a 24-year-old. He was charged with distributing cocaine and for possessing cocaine, both felonies. The second man, a 23-year-old, was charged with distributing marijuana and for possession of marijuana, both felonies.

Authorities ultimately discovered the marijuana, 40 grams of what was thought to be cocaine and about $4,000 in cash. Additionally, paraphernalia consistent with a drug packaging operation, such as a scale and plastic baggies, were also found inside the home.

In illinoiss, drug charges can have serious consequences depending on the type and amount of the drugs that were recovered. If a person was accused of being involved in a drug distribution scheme, a criminal law attorney may assist with defending the person against the allegations depending on the evidence the prosecution has against them. The attorney may argue that the person was unaware there were drugs in the home or that the drugs did not belong to the accused person. The attorney may also provide evidence that shows that the person was not involved in selling the drugs that were found.
