Woman charged with DUI after claiming she had 3 drinks

A 25-year-old suburban Chicago woman was charged with DUI after she told authorities that she was driving to a nearby White Castle in order to "sober up". According to Riverside police, a traffic stop was conducted on her vehicle after authorities saw it cross the center lane.

The Franklin Park woman was pulled over near the Harlem and Ogden intersection at about 4:15 a.m. When the authorities talked to the woman, she stated that she had just come from a Darien bar and was traveling to the fast food hamburger location to sober up. The authorities reportedly conducted multiple sobriety tests before taking her to a nearby police station. Once there, the woman said that she had three drinks but was not "that drunk".

Her blood alcohol level was tested at the station, where it was shown that she had a BAC of .115, well over the legal limit in illinoiss. As a result, she was charged with two counts of drunk driving, improper lane usage, driving in the wrong lane and driving without proper insurance.

When people have been accused of drunk driving, they can face serious consequences if a conviction is obtained, including incarceration and substantial fines. Criminal defense attorneys will remind their clients to not say anything incriminating when they are pulled over, as that could make fighting the allegations more difficult. One potential challenge in cases like these could be on the basis that the breath test machine was improperly calibrated.
