Armed robber detained within minutes of alleged crime

Criminal charges have been filed against a 20-year-old Bellwood man who robbed a woman at gunpoint in a west suburban Chicago grocery store parking lot on Jan. 5. The charged man was quickly taken into police custody about 10 minutes after the incident. He appeared in court the next day and was held on a $100,000 bond.

Reports indicate that a quick response from Clarendon Hills police and a coordinated effort between Clarendon Hills, Willowbrook, Westmont and Hinsdale law enforcement officials led to the quick apprehension of the alleged gunman about four blocks from the scene of the crime. Prosecutors say that a woman was loading groceries into her car at approximately 8:30 p.m. when the man allegedly snatched her purse, pulled a gun and pushed her to the ground. He was reportedly still carrying the gun, an Airsoft replica pistol, when he was later detained by Willowbrook police.

The charged man is next scheduled to appear in a Wheaton court on Jan. 17 in connection with felony counts of aggravated battery and aggravated robbery. A Dupage County state's attorney has said that the allegations in the case are "extremely disturbing" and has indicated that they will be subject to "the full force of the law."

Residents of Chicago who find themselves facing similar charges may be hit with potentially lengthy prison sentences as well as other severe consequences. Dependent upon the circumstances of a particular situation, an attorney who is well familiar with the criminal justice system may be able to help a client who has been charged with a felony achieve a favorable outcome in court.
