2 charged with possession of meth precursor

Two Illinois residents were taken into custody on May 6 after they were accused of being in possession of materials that are commonly used in methamphetamine production. The materials were found after someone called 911 from the residence and hung up.

Authorities stated that deputies responded to the 911 call as there had been a domestic violence report at the same residence the same day. While the authorities were there, they reportedly saw materials used in meth production. They obtained a search warrant and investigated the residence.

One of the residents was identified as a 29-year-old Royalton man. He was charged with possession of meth precursor, possession of meth production materials, disposal of meth manufacturing waste, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The other resident was identified as a 33-year-old Ava woman. She was also charged with similar offenses in addition to possession of a hypodermic needle and possession of a controlled substance. Both were taken to the Franklin County jail. Authorities stated that the investigation was still ongoing and that they expected to make other arrests.

Drug charges can result in serious consequences if a person is convicted. If the charges were associated with drug production or drug trafficking, the person could potentially end up in jail or be required to pay expensive fines. They may also lose their job and any scholarships that they may have for higher education. In some cases, a criminal defense attorney may assist with drafting a defense that protects the person against the consequences of a conviction, especially if there is evidence that the person was unaware of the drugs or was not the owner of the drugs.
