2 Illinois brothers face multiple drug-related charges

Police took two brothers into custody on Feb. 16 after they discovered more than 756 grams of marijuana in the brothers' Fox River Grove home. The charges were made after the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Task Force conducted a 30-day investigation.

The 28-year old brother has been charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana and unlawful delivery of marijuana. His younger brother, who is 24-years old, faces charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance, two counts of unlawful delivery of marijuana, unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful delivery of marijuana.

The incident occurred after undercover detectives reportedly confronted the 24-year-old man to purchase cannabis from him. On Feb. 16, officials with the United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Task Force and the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Task Force searched the brothers' Fox River Grove residence after they obtained a search warrant. According police reports, the detectives located and seized a number of items, including cash in the amount of $1,895, Alprazolam pills, a scale, packaging materials and 756.3 grams of cannabis. Officials said that the narcotics amounted to a street value of roughly $15,000. Officials also relied on eyewitness reports from members of the community who suspected criminal activity was occurring where the brothers resided.

Because the state of Illinois carries strict drug laws and penalties, those facing drug charges might want to speak with a criminal lawyer who could work to get the charges dismissed or reduced. If possible, the attorney can attempt to negotiate a plea bargain with the prosecution in an effort to minimize the penalties.
