Authorities seize $8.6 million worth of drugs, cash and weapons

Illinois authorities recently seized $8.6 million worth of illegal drugs as part of a nearly three-year investigation, according to a public announcement released Dec. 1. The drugs were seized Nov. 22 after a search warrant was executed on a home in Rockford by officers with the Rockford narcotics unit in conjunction with officers with the DEA's Rockford task force.

The officers reportedly found and seized 50 kilograms of cocaine, 1 kilogram of fentanyl and 19 kilograms of methamphetamine from the home. Agents also reportedly seized $116,000 in cash, four vehicles and some weapons.

A 58-year-old man at the home was taken into custody and charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver and one count of delivering a controlled substance. A woman who was present in the home was not charged. Law enforcement officers stated that they are also searching for a 26-year-old man in conjunction with the bust. He is wanted for two counts of possessing a weapon as a felon and one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. The 58-year-old man was being held in custody at the Winnebago County Jail.

Drug crimes are treated seriously in Illinois, and the potential penalties for such charges become much worse when drug sales are involved. Those who are facing drug charges might want to retain a criminal defense attorney who understands how to build a strong defense. An attorney might be able to secure a more favorable plea, a capped sentence or dismissal of the charges in some cases.
