Illinois man facing multiple criminal charges

According to authorities, a 19-year-old man was charged with drug possession in Glendale Heights on Jan. 21. Police had searched the man's home on the 2300 block of Century Point that morning and found items related to packing and selling drugs. They also found a gun, marijuana and money. Police say that the man was present at the time of the search.

He was charged with possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver as well as unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, he was also charged with possession of a gun and ammunition without a permit. After being taken into custody, he was transported to DuPage County Jail where he was initially held until a bond hearing could take place.

Those who have been issued drug charges may face a variety of penalties if convicted, including lengthy incarceration, stiff fines and probation. As a result, those who are in this situation may want to meet with a criminal defense attorney as quickly as possible in order to construct an appropriate defense strategy. There may be a few different options that are available.

For instance, it could be argued in a drug possession case that the drugs did not belong to the individual in question or that he or she was compelled to have them. It may also be possible to argue that the substance in question was not illegal to possess because it was not a controlled substance. In addition, there is in some cases the possibility to challenge the constitutionality of the search that led to the seizure of the drugs in question, which if successful could lead to a dismissal.
