Medical Marijuana Applications are Now Available to Patients, Caregivers, Dispensaries & Cultivation Centers

Illinois patients are now able to get applications for medical marijuana online, though the submission period won't begin until September.

On August 8, 2014, the website for the Illinois Medical Cannabis Pilot Program (MCPP) announced that in order to provide ample time for patients, caregivers, and dispensary and cultivation center applicants to prepare all of the necessary documentation, applications are now available online.

The Department of Public Health (DPH) patient applications are now available, and the application submission period will begin on September 2nd.

Draft applications for dispensaries and cultivations centers are also now available. The anticipated application window for dispensary and cultivation center applicants is Monday, September 8, 2014 through Monday, September 22, 2014.

On the MCPP website, the public was informed that full implementation of the MCPP will take some time. The state of Illinois warned the public that it will remain illegal for anyone to grow, offer to provide, or to possess medical cannabis until licenses have been issued and the program is up and running.

Three town hall meetings were scheduled throughout Illinois to answer any questions about applications from anyone interested in applying as a caregiver or patient through the Department of Public Health.

These meetings were also scheduled to answer any questions from anyone interested in obtaining a cultivation license through the Department of Agriculture, or a dispensary license through the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

The meetings were scheduled on August 14th in Collinsville, on August 18th in Peoria, and the most recent meeting took place on August 20th at 10 a.m. at: Northeastern Illinois University, Alumni Hall (North), Student Union Building, 5500 N. St. Louis Avenue, Chicago, IL 60625.

Application information for patients, and caregivers and draft applications for dispensaries and cultivation centers are available online at mcpp.illinois.gov.
